1. Define the observation purpose first

The key question is not simply which camera type is better. Organisations need to identify required sightlines, image detail, retention time, number of viewers and how footage will be used.

These needs help avoid a decision based on one specification or only initial investment cost.

2. Compare across the whole system

A camera is part of an infrastructure that includes network, power, storage, placement and access rights. Scalability and footage retrieval depend on the complete design, not an individual camera.

During a survey, document zones, lighting, connectivity and retention rules so the design can be checked.

3. Account for operation and retrieval

A useful system lets authorised people find the right footage in a reasonable time and understand the operating state of important points.

Define who monitors, who retrieves, when to escalate and which data needs protection in advance.
